This post just lost his house, shirt and hotcakes at the horse races.
Console the poor fool over here.

Building my writing career. One carefree, painless step at a time - I swear. My hair even improves in the process. That's karma for you, ladies and gents.

As far as screenwriting goes:
1. Don't overload yourself with knowledge. Knowledge is useless without the ability to apply it. Keep things simple, especially when you're starting out. Don't be fancy. Good writing is about executing the fundamentals, as boring as that is.
2. Find a mentor. If you find a good one that'll cut your learning curve dramatically. Hell, find several. Ideally you want a writer who's better than you and a director, because they're both going to give you different perspectives.
3. Use the Wordplayer forums. The ratio of pro-writers (those of us who've been paid) to pre-pro (those who haven't) is unbelievably high.
And the one piece of advice that everyone ignores that can improve your writing faster than anything else (besides writing):
READ SCREENPLAYS.
Good ones, bad ones, all of them.
It will do more for your writing than you can imagine.
Thanks for the advice, Dave.
I'm definitely going to look into the Wordplayer forums. I started this screenwriting business on a bit of a lark, but I've realized it's going to take a lot of dedication to write a quality screenplay.
